Dana Impak Initiatives

The Future Malaysia Programme (FMP) seeks to support the local start-up ecosystem of local entrepreneurs, start-ups, venture capital and corporate venture programmes through collaborations with domestic and international partners.

The power of the entrepreneur and by extension start-ups, hold unlimited potential – bringing to market new business models that create and add societal value in unprecedented and unique ways. However, fleshing that idea into a viable business model may be inhibited by a lack of access to funding, mentorship and other key resources. Hence the FMP holistically supports the Malaysian start-up ecosystem, thereby creating a conducive environment for Malaysian Entrepreneurs to create and innovate.

The Future Malaysia Programme’s multi-pronged approach:

Future Malaysia Skills (FMS): Creating a talent generation platform to upskill Malaysians for the Future of Work

  • Established 42 Malaysia1, an innovative peer-to-peer computer science school that aims to accelerate the development of 10,000 skilled tech talents in Malaysia over the next 10 years. The 42 programme is open to all Malaysians free-of charge of those aged 18 years and above, regardless of education or socioeconomic background

Faciliating Corporate Malaysia’s Involvement

  • Khazanah is a corporate partner for the PETRONAS FutureTech 3.0 accelerator programme, which strives to unlock synergies and create business value by fostering collaboration between Malaysian corporates and the start-up ecosystem.
  • Together with Plug and Play, a leading global innovation platform based in Silicon Valley and CelcomDigi Berhad and Sime Darby Plantation Berhad as anchor partners, we are seeking to establish an innovation accelerator in Malaysia for corporations. Ultimately, providing corporations a platform to access leading international enterprise-grade start-ups, thereby meeting their innovation objectives and reducing start-up risk in driving innovative corporate ventures.

Creating global links and crowding in investments.

  • Khazanah partnered with Gobi Partners and 500 Global, both internationally recognised venture capital managers with an extensive investing track record and expertise for value creation in Malaysia.
  • These partners act as a bridge to crowd-in investment from regional venture funds to invest in Malaysian companies, helping Malaysian start-ups expand internationally with the goal of becoming regional champions.

Note:

1. 42 Malaysia was established as a Joint Venture with Sunway Education Group

This year’s KIIC is themed around “Tackling the Climate Challenge for Malaysia’s Food Security”. It aims to achieve the following:

  1. Uncover innovative agrifood startups and Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs),
  2. Boost participants’ readiness and knowledge in navigating fund-raising to take their business to the next stage of growth; and
  3. Profile/showcase Malaysia based agrifood startups and MSMEs to the broader investment community.

Ten (10) finalists of KIIC2023 have a chance to receive an award of up to RM500,000 each in the form of grants. Khazanah and its partners reserve the rights on the final grant amount, and disbursement schedule to the shortlisted finalists, subject to the execution of the KIIC Grant Agreement by the finalists. The KIIC2023 Demo Day would provide a platform for finalist(s) to pitch for potential equity investments from Khazanah and its funding partners; and/or debt funding from our debt financing partners.

This year’s KIIC is organised by Khazanah in partnership with its programme partner, Plug and Play APAC (“PNP”), outreach partners, Impact Circle and Cradle Fund’s MYStartup, and funding partners Gobi Partners, 500 Global, and Agrobank.
