Khazanah Nasional Berhad (“Khazanah”) wishes to announce that P.K. Basu has been appointed Director, Chief Economist, reporting to the Managing Director, and will be a senior member of Khazanah’s team responsible for economic, investment and strategic research activities.
P.K. joins Khazanah from Robust Economic Analysis Pte. Ltd. (REAL), a Singapore-based consultancy providing independent economic analysis of Asia, where he was Managing Director, since May 2003. Between April 1998 and April 2003, PK was at Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB), first as Vice President and Co-head of Asian economic research (until end-1999), and then as Director and Chief Economist for South East Asia and India.
Between November 1994 and March 1998, P.K. was Director of Regional Macroeconomics at UES Securities (Singapore) focusing on Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and cross-Asia themes. He worked at Wharton Econometric Forecasting Associates Inc. (WEFA) between 1990 and 1994, starting as an Associate Economist and ending as Director of their Asia Service.
P.K. has dual Master’s degrees in Governmental Administration and International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA (Hons.) in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi; he also completed two years’ Ph.D. coursework in Development Economics and International Relations at University of Pennsylvania.
