YB Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop - Minister in the Prime Minister’s Dept. and Board Member, Khazanah Nasional Berhad
Keynote Address
Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Nor Mohamed Yakcop was appointed as Director of Khazanah Nasional on 2 November, 2002. He is currently the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and a member of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Action Council (NEAC), after serving as the Second Minister of Finance until 9 April 2009. Previously, he was the Special Economic Adviser to the Prime Minister. Apart from a short period in the private sector in the late 1990’s, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Nor Mohamed Yakcop was with Bank Negara Malaysia from 1968 to 2000. During his service with Bank Negara Malaysia, he was responsible for the implementation of a number of major projects, including the implementation of Islamic banking in Malaysia, the setting-up of the bilateral payments mechanism between Bank Negara Malaysia and Central Banks of South-South countries and the setting-up of the Rating Agency Malaysia Berhad. As Special Economic Adviser to the Prime Minister, he played a major role in a number of corporate restructuring exercises, including for United Engineers (Malaysia) Berhad and Malaysian Airline System Berhad. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Nor Mohamed Yakcop graduated from the University of Malaya with a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) degree and also from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium with an M.B.A. (cum laude) degree.
Dr. Simon Ogus - CEO, DSG Asia, Hong Kong

Dr. Simon Ogus is the founder of DSG Asia Limited, and an economic historian who has studied China and the region over many years. DSG Asia is an independent consultancy, offering analysis of the economies and politics of Asia. It works with a variety of multinational and regional entities in the financial, non-financial and governmental spheres. Until May 1999, Simon was Managing Director and Chief Economist at UBS Hong Kong. He also held the position of Adjunct Professor of Economics and Finance at the City University of Hong Kong. Simon currently serves on the board of a number of companies and official bodies, including the Council of Advisers for the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s Hong Kong Institute for Monetary Research. Prior to joining Swiss Bank Corporation/UBS, he has trained as an actuary with William M. Mercer Fraser. Simon gained his PhD in Economics from the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies. He also holds an MSc in Management and Finance from the University of London’s Imperial College, and a BA in Economics and Econometrics from the University of Manchester.

Dato’ Ooi is the Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia and a member of the Board of Directors of Bank Negara Malaysia. He received a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) degree from University of Malaya and Master of Arts (Development Finance) from Boston University, USA. Dato’ Ooi joined the Economics Department of Bank Negara Malaysia in 1971 and held various senior positions in the Department before leaving in 1984 to join the private sector. He held a number of senior management responsibilities across the financial services sector while in the private sector. He was Chief Executive Officer of a finance company in Malaysia for a number of years, after which he assumed the post of Chief Economist, Asia-Pacific, in Standard Chartered Bank, Singapore. In 1994, he was appointed Managing Director of Warburg Asset Management Pte. Ltd., Singapore, where he led a team of fund managers managing a sizeable portfolio of Asian equities. Prior to joining Bank Negara Malaysia as Deputy Governor in 2002, Dato’ Ooi was with the RHB Group covering ASEAN regional equities as Managing Director and Regional Research Director of RHB Research Institute. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Rashid Hussain Berhad and RHB Investment Bank Berhad. Dato’ Ooi is concurrently Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cagamas Berhad, The National Mortgage Corporation, and the Malaysian Electronic Clearing Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (MyClear). Dato’ Ooi is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Bankers Malaysia and a Board Member of the SEACEN Research and Training Centre.
Prem Manjooran - SVP, Capital International Research, USA

Prem Manjooran is a senior vice president of Capital International Research, Inc. with research responsibilities for India and Malaysia, as well as the consumer and automobile industries in the Asia region excluding Japan. He joined Capital International in 1992 as a participant in “The Associates Program” after graduating from Davidson College in North Carolina. Mr. Manjooran also spent a year at St. Xavier’s College in Calcutta and, while there, served as manager of a personal computer business. He is based in Singapore.
Stephen Taran - MD, Citigroup Global Markets Inc.

Stephen is a Managing Director in the Sovereigns, Agencies and Supranationals division of the debt capital markets department of Citigroup Global Markets, Inc. He is responsible for advising governments and government-related agencies worldwide on access to global debt markets and rating agency relationships. For the past eight years, he has been most active in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. From 1983 through 1998, Stephen’s work was focused on Asia. He was based in Hong Kong from 1992 through 1998 where he was in charge of Asian sovereign credit research for JP Morgan, Lehman Brothers and then Citigroup. He worked closely with Bank Negara Malaysia in developing Malaysia’s strategy for returning to the global bond market after the Asian currency crisis in 1999. From 1987 to 1992, Stephen was Moody’s analyst for Asian sovereigns and multilateral development banks. He was responsible for Moody’s first-time ratings for the People’s Republic of China and India, among others. Stephen’s first experience in Asia came as a development policy officer with the Asian Development Bank in Manila from 1983 to 1987. He was a member of the staff of the OECD in Paris from 1978 to 1983, and began his career with the Overseas Development Council in Washington, D.C., from 1973 to 1978. Stephen holds a Master of Science in Foreign Service degree from Georgetown University.
Iqbal Khan - CEO, Fajr Capital Ltd.

Iqbal Khan is currently Chief Executive Officer of Fajr Capital Limited and has led the Management Team since early 2007. He was previously Founding CEO of HSBC Amanah, where he built the business and team over eight years, as one of the fastest growing and most successful emerging businesses in the HSBC Group. Mr. Khan was a member of the Boards of Directors of HSBC Bank Middle East, The Saudi British Bank, and HSBC Investment Bank (Saudi Arabia). He reported directly to the HSBC Group Holdings Group CEO and now Chairman, Stephen Green. Mr. Khan has been associated with the launch of leading Islamic finance institutions such as Meezan Bank, Citi Islamic Investment Bank, and IDB Infrastructure Fund, and has overseen a wide range of business lines, including retail banking, corporate finance advisory, treasury and risk management, wealth management, private banking, and private equity. He is active in a large number of Islamic finance institutions industry initiatives, serving as an advisor to Islamic Financial Services initiatives of governments in the UK, the UAE, and Malaysia. Mr. Khan has received a number of industry commendations, including a special award from Euromoney in 2006 for “Outstanding Contribution to Islamic Finance.”
Dr. Y. Venugopal Reddy - former Governor, Reserve Bank of India
SPECIAL ADDRESS - THE INDIAN ECONOMY: SOME INSIGHTS
Dr. Yaga Venugopal Reddy served for five years as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and retired in September 2008. He is currently Emeritus Professor at the University of Hyderabad. He has been a member of the Commission of Experts of The President of The UN General Assembly on Reforms of The International Monetary and Financial System, and a guest of the Committee on Global Thought, Columbia University. In recognition of his contribution, Dr. Reddy was awarded a Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) by Sri Venkateswara University, India and a Doctor of Civil Law Honoris Causa by the University of Mauritius. He was also elected Honorary Fellow of the LSE.
Dr. Reddy was honoured in October 2006 as one of the five original reformers of India, together with Dr. Manmohan Singh, Palaniappan Chidambaram, Dr. Chakravarthi Rangarajan and Montek Singh Ahluwalia. Subsequently, he earned the reputation of being a conservative central banker. More recently, in the context of the global financial crisis, he is described as 'the-man-who-saved-India'.
Prior to being Governor, he was Executive Director for India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Bhutan at the IMF since August 2002. Before that, he was Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Formerly, he was Secretary to the Ministry of Finance and Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Commerce. He has also served the state government of Andhra Pradesh in several capacities including as Principle Secretary and Secretary – Finance and Planning, Collector and District Magistrate. He has also been an advisor to the World Bank.
Dr. Reddy has been closely associated with several academic institutions in teaching and research capacities. He has authored several articles and published a number of books. His latest book "India and the Global Financial Crisis: Managing Money and Finance" published by Orient BlackSwan was released in May 2009.

LUNCHEON ADDRESS - POST-CRISIS MEGA -TRENDS: ISSUES & CHALLENGES
Datuk Seri Panglima Andrew Sheng was appointed to the Board of Directors of Khazanah Nasional on 22 July 2008. He is currently the Chief Adviser to the China Banking Regulatory Commission and member of the National Economic Advisory Council (NEAC). He also sits on the Boards of the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority and Sime Darby Berhad. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), the International Advisory Panel of the Labuan Offshore Financial Services Authority (LOFSA), the Governing Council of the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) and the Advisory Council of the National Institute of Securities Market, India (NISM).
He is also currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Malaya and Graduate School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, Beijing. Among his previous appointments include as Chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong (Oct 1998 - Sep 2000), Deputy Chief Executive at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (Oct 1993 – Sep 1998), Senior Manager of Financial Sector Development at the World Bank (1989 – 1993), as well as various senior positions including Chief Economist and Assistant Governor at Bank Negara Malaysia (1976 – 1989). He is a Chartered Accountant by training and holds a first class honours degree in Economics and an honorary doctorate of law from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom.
Dato’ Sri Idris Jala - Minister in the Prime Minister’s Dept. and former CEO, Malaysia Airlines

Dato’ Sri Idris Jala is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and CEO of Pemandu, tasked with overseeing the implementation of the key performance indicator (KPI) initiatives to enhance the public delivery of services and performance management of the Federal government. Prior to that, he was Managing Director and CEO of Malaysia Airlines since December 2005, and initiated the airline’s Business Turnaround Plan (BTP 1) in February 2006. Upon successfully turning around a 9-month loss of USD 400 million in 2005 in less than two years, he achieved a record profit of USD 260 million in 2007. Dato’ Sri Idris’ next 5-year Business Transformation Plan (BTP 2) was announced in January 2008, featuring bold profit targets of up to USD 630-USD 950 million per annum by 2012. The hallmark of his stewardship at Malaysia Airlines was the aspiration to achieve its profit targets by transforming into the “World’s Five Star Value Carrier”, offering 5-Star products and services at affordable prices. Prior to joining Malaysia Airlines, he spent 23 years at Shell, where as Vice President, Business Development Consultancy, he led a team of top notch internal consultants on radical business improvement projects and revamped the Shell global retail business model in order to achieve profitable growth.
Dato’ Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim - CEO, Axiata Group Berhad

Dato’ Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim joined Axiata Group Berhad (formerly known as TM International Berhad) in March 2008 as President and Group Chief Executive Officer. He is also a board member of Axiata Group. Prior to that, he was with Maxis Communications Berhad, which he joined in 1997 and was appointed Chief Operating Officer in the same year, and Chief Executive Officer a year later. In 2006, he was redesignated the Group Chief Executive Officer to reflect Maxis’ international footprint. During Jamaludin’s decade of leadership with Maxis, the company’s revenue grew more than twenty-fold to about USD2.3 billion, net profit grew to about USD600 million and market capitalisation swelled to more than USD11 billion in 2007 (before the privatisation). Before joining Maxis, Dato’ Sri Jamaludin spent six years in the IT Industry. He was Managing Director and CEO of Digital Equipment Malaysia (a Malaysian branch of Digital Equipment, then the second largest IT company worldwide) from 1993 to 1997. Jamaludin also spent 12 years in IBM (1981-1993), the first five years as Systems Engineer and then in various positions in Sales, Marketing Support and Management. Prior to IBM, he was a lecturer in Quantitative Methods at California State University, United States in 1980. Dato’ Sri Jamaludin graduated from California State University in 1978 with a B.Sc. in Business Administration and minor in Mathematics. He obtained his MBA from Portland State University, Oregon in 1980. Dato’ Sri Jamaludin is also the Chairman of Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad, the second largest mobile company in Malaysia, and sits on the board of PT Excelcomindo Pratama TBK (XL) Indonesia, MobileOne Ltd (M) Singapore, as well as two local universities. In 2008 he was appointed board member of the GSMA (the global World GSM Association). Dato’ Sri Jamaludin earned the accolade of Malaysia’s “CEO of the Year” 2000 by American Express & Business Times and was inducted into the Hall of Fame for “Services to the Mobile Telecommunications Industry” by Asian Mobile News in 2004. He was also named Asian Mobile Operator CEO of the Year by Asian Mobile News Awards 2007.
Daniel R Fung - SBS, SC, QC, JP, Former Solicitor - General of Hong Kong
Daniel R. Fung was the first person of Chinese extraction to serve as Solicitor General of Hong Kong, doing so during the period of the territory’s reversion to Chinese sovereignty from 1994 to 1998. He is Senior Counsel of the Hong Kong Bar and the Chairman of Des Voeux Chambers, voted by Asia Law & Practice as Chambers of the Year for eight consecutive years since 1999, and is an accredited arbitrator of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC). From 1985-1990, he was involved in the drafting of the mini-constitution for the Hong Kong SAR. Mr Fung was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1990 and Senior Counsel in 1997. He has served as a member of the World Bank International Advisory Council on Law & Justice (1999-2005) and as special advisor to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on corporate governance in China (2001). In 2003, Mr Fung was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star for services to constitutional development in Hong Kong and made a Justice of the Peace in 2004. A specialist constitutional lawyer, he has spoken extensively on the anti-corruption initiatives of the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and its transformative impact on Hong Kong society, especially from the perspective of jurisprudence and human rights protection.
Yvonne Chia - Group Managing Director and Chief Executive of Hong Leong Bank

Yvonne started her career in Bank of America and has worked in Malaysia and the region, with 25 years of international banking experience to her name. Highly regarded in the banking community in Malaysia, she also has the distinction of being the first woman to become the Chief Executive Officer of any Malaysian bank.
She successfully grew RHB Bank into one of the leading local banking groups in Malaysia and in the region over the challenging 1996-2002 period of the Asian financial crisis. During her tenure, RHB Bank grew from being the sixth largest to third largest bank in Malaysia, having transformed into a full-fledged financial services company. She also headed a distressed bank (the former Sime Bank) under the ambit of Bank Negara Malaysia during the Asian crisis from 1999 to 2000, whilst concurrently helming RHB Bank as the Managing Director.
Yvonne is currently the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive of Hong Leong Bank. Under her leadership and stewardship, the bank transformed into a formidable full-fledged financial services organization with leading market positions including multi-channel banking. She led the bank towards a two-fold increase in profits from organic growth, significantly enhanced shareholder value creation as well as built new capabilities. Apart from enlarging the embedded domestic franchise and its operations in Singapore and Hong Kong, Hong Leong Bank became the first Malaysian bank to make a strategic investment in the Chinese banking sector through its 20% strategic investment in Bank of Chengdu Co., Ltd.. During her tenure, Hong Leong Bank is also the first Southeast Asian bank to be awarded a wholly-owned foreign subsidiary banking license in Vietnam. She also led the diversification of the bank into Islamic financial services through the set-up of Hong Leong Islamic Bank Berhad and Hong Leong Tokio Marine Takaful Berhad.

Bernd is a member of The Boston Consulting Group’s Asia-Pacific leadership team. In 2007 he was appointed to lead BCG’s Globalization Practice, an initiative established to support firms in their globalization campaigns. Bernd joined BCG in Düsseldorf (Germany) in 1990. He transferred to Indonesia at the beginning of 1999 to establish BCG’s Jakarta office, before serving as Managing Director of BCG Southeast Asia for six years. He is also a core group member of BCG’s global Marketing & Sales Practice. Over the last nine years with BCG, Bernd has been responsible for a large number of assignments for companies active in the European and Asia-Pacific regions across all major industry sectors, including automotive, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, financial services, consumer goods, media, energy, mining and industrial goods. His clients include government bodies, state-owned enterprises, local private companies as well as multinational firms. Bernd is also the partner in charge of BCG’s corporate sponsorship for the World Food Programme (WFP) in Asia. In this capacity he spends part of his time providing consulting services to this organization on a pro-bono basis. Prior to joining BCG Bernd was Assistant Professor and Managing Director of the Marketing Institute of Muenster University. He also spent two years at General Motors Europe, Zurich (Switzerland), working on international market strategies. Bernd holds an MBA (“Dipl.-Kfm.”) and a PhD in Marketing (summa cum laude) from Westfaelische Wilhelms-University Muenster (Germany).

Dr. Danny Quah is Professor of Economics and Head of Department at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He holds degrees from Princeton and Harvard, and was Assistant Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining the LSE. He has consulted for, among others, the World Bank, the Bank of England, and the Monetary Authority of Singapore. His research is now in economic growth and development, income inequality, economic geography, and new technologies, but he has also previously done work in time series econometrics, inflation, and business cycles. At the LSE he used to lecture in the largest course (Introductory Economics) taught in the school; currently he teaches macroeconomics in the postgraduate programme. Prof Quah holds a blackbelt in taekwon-do.
Martin Jacques - Author of “When China Rules The World” and Columnist, The Guardian

Martin Jacques is the author of “When China Rules the World: the Rise of the Middle Kingdom and the End of the Western World.” He is a visiting senior fellow at the London School of Economics, IDEAS, a centre for the study of international affairs, diplomacy and grand strategy, and a visiting research fellow at the LSE’s Asia Research Centre. He is a columnist for the Guardian and the New Statesman. Born in Coventry in 1945, he graduated with a first class honours degree at Manchester University followed by a Masters degree. He then went to Cambridge University, where he was a member of King’s College, and completed a PhD. He subsequently held a lectureship in the Department of Economic and Social History at Bristol University. In 1977, he became a editor of Marxism Today, a post he held for fourteen years, transforming what was an obscure and dull journal into the most influential political publication in Britain, read and respected on the right and left alike, and the home of the best contemporary political analysis; it was the foremost analyst of Thatcherism, coining the term, identified the decline of the left before others, and introduced the idea of ‘new times’, based on post-Fordism and globalisation. In 1991, he closed Marxism Today and in 1994 became the deputy editor of the Independent newspaper, a post he held until 1996. In 1993 he co-founded the think-tank Demos, the idea for which first occurred to him during the latter phase of Marxism Today, and which was to become influential during the 1990s. He has made many television programmes for the BBC including writing and presenting Italy on Trial (1993), The Incredible Shrinking Politicians (1993), a two-part series on The End of the Western World (1996) and Proud to be Chinese (1998). He co-edited and co-authored the Forward March of Labour Halted? (1981), Politics of Thatcherism (1983), New Times (1989) and Wrong (1998), and has contributed essays to many other books.
Atul Bhargava - MD, Intel Malaysia

Atul Bhargava is the Managing Director of Intel Malaysia, and Site General Manager. He is responsible for managing the Penang and Kulim assembly/test facilities, systems manufacturing facilities, the design centers, supporting marketing functions, technology development and other support organizations. He joined Intel in 984 as a package development engineer and has held various senior management positions at Intel spanning across manufacturing, product R&D, business unit operations and factory operations. Prior to this appointment, Atul was the General Manager for the latest state of the art Assembly and Test Microprocessor factory in Intel Kulim. Through his leadership, the factory has successfully ramped latest generation microprocessors and communication products. Atul holds a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University and an Executive MBA from Thunderbird American Graduate School of International Management in Arizona. In his spare time, Atul likes to play tennis and enjoys traveling with his wife and two daughters.
Dr. Abbas Mirakhor - former ED, International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Securities Commission—Universiti Malaya Visiting Scholar in Islamic Finance
SPECIAL ADDRESS: GLOBALISATION AND ISLAMIC FINANCE
Dr. Abbas Mirakhor served as Executive Director on the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund from 1990 up to his retirement in 2008. He was Dean of the Executive Board (1997-2008), Senior Economist (1987-1990) and Economist (1984-1987). He has served as Professor of Economics and held senior academic positions at Alabama A&M University and the University of Alabama in the United States, as well as Azzahara University, Iran. Among the awards he has received are the “Order of Companion of Volta” for service to Ghana, conferred by the President of Ghana, the Islamic Development Bank Annual Prize for Research in Islamic Economics, shared with Mohsin Khan, and the 1972 IEEE Engineering Management Society First Paper Prize for “A Test of Relationship between Productivity, Satisfaction, and Ability in an R&D Organization” which he coauthored with H.F Vincent. An acclaimed economist and scholar in Islamic finance, Dr. Mirakhor is currently in Malaysia as the second Securities Commission-Universiti Malaya Visiting Scholar in Islamic Finance, where he shall be involved in various speaking engagements and assist in academic research over a 3-week period.
Dominic Barton - Worldwide MD, McKinsey & Co.
LUNCHEON ADDRESS: UNDERLYING TRENDS AND IMPERATIVES FOR BUSINESS
Dominic Barton is the worldwide Managing Director of McKinsey & Company. In his 24 years with the firm, Dominic has advised clients in a range of industries including banking, consumer goods, high tech and industrial, helping transform institutions from local and regional players into global leaders. Prior to his current role, Dominic was McKinsey’s Chairman of Asia from 2004-2009, based in Shanghai, and led McKinsey’s office in Korea from 2000-2004. Dominic is an active participant in many international fora including Davos, the Aspen Strategy Group and the World Bank and IMF meetings. A prolific writer, he has authored more than 80 articles on Asia, history and the issues and opportunities facing global and Asian markets. He is the co-author – with Roberto Newell and Greg Wilson – of Dangerous Markets: Managing in Financial Crises (Wiley & Sons, 2002). His most recent book is China Vignettes: An Inside Look at China (Talisman, 2007). Dominic is a trustee of the Brookings Institution and is the Chairman of the International Advisory Committee to the President of South Korea on National Future and Vision. In 2008 he was awarded the Magnolia Silver Prize by the Shanghai Government for his outstanding contributions to the city’s development. Dominic is a Rhodes Scholar with an MPhil in economics from Oxford University. He is married and has two children.

Ravin Jesuthasan is the global practice leader of Towers Perrin’s Rewards and Performance Management Practice and a leader of the firm’s Workforce Effectiveness Group. He is a Managing Principal of the firm and is based in the Chicago office. Mr. Jesuthasan has extensive experience in the design and implementation of workforce and people systems that are aligned with an organization’s strategic drivers and the creation of shareholder value. Dato’ Sri Nazir is Director of CIMB Group Holdings Berhad (“CIMB Group”). CIMB Group has total assets of over USD60 billion and a market capitalisation of about USD10 billion. Dato’ Sri Nazir graduated from the University of Bristol with a BSc (Hons) and obtained an MPhil from the University of Cambridge. He joined CIMB’s corporate advisory department in 1989, and in 1993, was appointed Executive Director of CIMB Securities. He moved back to investment banking as Deputy Chief Executive of CIMB on June 1996 and became Chief Executive in June 1999. Dato’ Sri Nazir spearheaded the Group’s transformation from a Malaysian investment bank to a regional universal bank via several acquisitions including GK Goh Securities, Bumiputra-Commerce Bank, Southern Bank, Bank Niaga, Bank Lippo and BankThai. CIMB Group has South East Asia’s largest branch network with over 1150 branches and 34,000 employees, catering to the banking needs of over 10 million customers in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. CIMB Group also has offices in New York, London, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Brunei and Vietnam. Under his stewardship, CIMB Group has won many prestigious accolades. Juan is currently a global investor based in London. From 1996 to 2000, he was the Chairman and CEO of Telefónica, a provider of telecommunications services in Spain. Prior to joining Telefónica, Juan was the CEO of Bankers Trust in Spain, the CEO of Credit Suisse First Boston in Spain and a partner at McKinsey & Co. for nine years. Juan graduated with a degree in Law and Economics from Deusto University in Spain and holds an MBA from the Institute of Advanced Economic Studies in Barcelona, Spain. Juan is also a Director of Espirito Santo Financial Holding, a public company in Luxembourg.

Awadh Seghayer Al-Ketbi is the Chief Executive Officer of Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Leadership Development (MBRCLD), Dubai Government. He is also a distinguished alumnus of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Programme for Leadership Development (MBRPLD) Government Leaders level.

Awadh received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Schiller International University, UK, and is a Certified Internal Auditor by Lloyds Register. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the ICCA, SITE, ICCA ME Chapter, and Best Cities Alliance. Prior to his appointment as CEO of MBRCLD, Awadh was General Manager – Business Development, Strategy and Marketing for Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) Leisure, part of Majid Al Futtaim Group. Awadh led the execution and completion of the MAF Leisure strategy for 2009 – 2013. Awadh also held key positions within the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) from 1999– 2008. Reaffirming his excellent leadership skills, Awadh was appointed to act on behalf of the DTCM Director General for three years from 2005 to 2007. The Dubai Convention Bureau was Awadh’s brainchild as he successfully established the organization from scratch. He went on to surpass by 20 per cent the target number of conventions hosted in Dubai in 2007, along the way securing long-term commitments from a number of major events such as FDI 2007, WACS 2008, The BAR 20, and events to be organised by the Tall Building Association and Diabetes Association among others. Despite serving in an acting capacity at Dubai Cruise Terminal, Awadh was credited for increasing the number of cruise ships operating in Dubai from just four in 2002 to 65 in 2007.

Dr. Gargiulo (Italy/Uruguay) earned his MA, MPhil, and PhD from Columbia University in the City of New York. He also holds a degree in Cultural Anthropol¬ogy from Uruguay’s national university. He has taught MBA and executive audiences in Asia, Europe and Latin America. His teaching at INSEAD focuses on leadership, influence without authority, and the social capital of in¬formal networks. He is particularly interested in the leadership development of young high-potential executives, having designed and directed programs espe¬cially targeted to this group for leading multinational firms. He also developed an on-line questionnaire to measure and analyse the social capital of a manager’s social network. Professor Gargiulo’s research focuses on the analysis of coopera¬tion and networks within and across organizations. His publications include: “Two-Step Leverage: Managing Constraint in Organizational Politics” (Administrative Science Quarterly, March 993); “Where do Interorganizational Networks Come From?” (American Journal of Sociology, March 999); “Trapped in Your Own Net” (Organization Science, March 2000); “The Dark Side of Trust” (Edward Elgar, 2006) and “The Two Faces of Control: Network Closure and Individual Performance among Knowledge Workers” (Administrative Science Quarterly, June 2009). His current research focuses on how the informal collaboration networks help knowledge workers serve their firm and its clients.
